The Marrickville install rules.
Warehouse conversion apartments, Federation heritage semis, and Inner West Council’s EV-progressive planning environment — Marrickville does not have a standard electrical starting point. The charger install reflects that.

AUSGRID network — not Endeavour Energy.
Marrickville sits in the AUSGRID distribution network, the same network that services the inner city and eastern suburbs — not the Endeavour Energy territory that covers Western Sydney. The compliance pathway, metering standards, and connection rules are specific to AUSGRID. Our electricians are accredited in the AUSGRID service territory and manage all applicable requirements directly. You do not need to understand the difference between the two networks — we do, and we make sure the install is compliant within the correct framework from the outset.
Warehouse conversion installs — strata, sub-metering, and load management.
Marrickville's former industrial precinct — concentrated around Sydenham Road and the Unwins Bridge Road corridor — has been converted over the past two decades into a mix of live-work lofts, creative studios, and strata apartment buildings. These properties present specific electrical challenges: shared sub-boards that were designed for commercial lighting loads, individual lots without dedicated EV circuits, and owners corporations that require sub-metering to attribute consumption to each unit. We handle the strata documentation, sub-metering installation, and load management assessment as part of the job. If your warehouse building has a body corporate, ask us about the scope when you enquire — we confirm what approval documentation is needed before we visit.
Federation heritage semis — the homes that can be served.
Marrickville's residential streets are dominated by Federation and Edwardian semis on narrow 150–200m² lots. Many Inner West terraces and semis have no off-street parking — a reality that shapes what home EV charging can realistically achieve in this suburb. We are direct about this: if your Federation semi has no off-street access, a home Level 2 charger is not the right product, and we will tell you that clearly rather than oversell. For the properties that do have a driveway, side access, or converted rear garage — and there are many — we bring careful cable routing, heritage-aware mount-point selection, and AUSGRID-compliant installation on a switchboard that may be pre-war vintage. These are not standard suburban installs, and we do not treat them as such.
Inner West Council is EV-progressive — that matters for your install.
Inner West LGA had at least 3,941 battery-electric vehicles registered by August 2026 (Transport for NSW), and the Council is actively building out public infrastructure: more than 200 public charging plugs are live across the LGA, with 40 more planned by June 2026. Public kerbside chargers serve those without off-street parking. A home Level 2 charger remains the right solution for those who have the infrastructure to support it — overnight charging at home costs a fraction of public charging, and 7kW gives most drivers a full battery by morning. For Marrickville strata owners: Under NSW strata law an EV charger request is a sustainability infrastructure resolution (Strata Schemes Management Act 2015, s132B): it passes unless more than 50% of the votes cast are against it, a lower bar than the special resolution most upgrades need. Since 1 July 2025 a by-law also cannot block a charger on appearance grounds alone. See the <a href="https://www.energy.nsw.gov.au/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Energy NSW</a> guidance for details. We can advise on what the reform means for your building at the quote stage.
— II. EV in Marrickville
The Inner West is switching fast.
What the public data says about Marrickville homes, cars and charging — and what it means for your install.
Marrickville is mixed: 32% separate houses, 19% townhouses and semis, 47% apartments, with 1.2 cars per dwelling and 47% rented. EV charger installation Marrickville ranges from a garage circuit on a Federation semi to a sub-metered bay in a warehouse conversion. The Inner West has moved quickly — at least 3,941 battery-electric vehicles were registered in Inner West LGA in August 2026, two and a half times the 1,574 of August 2024. The LGA's 203 public plugs across 120 sites work out to at least 19 EVs per plug, so home charging remains the default where there is off-street parking.

SRS-EV-01Single-phase 7 kW for semis and housesAbout a third of Marrickville dwellings are separate houses, many on narrow lots with a side driveway or rear garage. A 7 kW charger there adds around 40–50 km of range per hour overnight.Details
SRS-EV-02Three-phase 22 kWFormer factories and the small businesses now in them often already have three-phase. A 22 kW Evnex, Wallbox or Schneider charger there gives roughly 120 km of range per hour; typically quoted from $1,499.Details
SRS-EV-03Solar-linked smart chargingPostcode 2204 has roughly 15 solar systems per 100 dwellings, so a solar tie-in is a common request here. On a Marrickville house with panels, a Zappi or Evnex diverts surplus daytime generation into the car.Details
SRS-EV-04Warehouse conversions and strataNearly half of Marrickville dwellings are apartments, many in converted industrial buildings with sub-boards sized for lighting. We scope sub-metering and load management and prepare the owners corporation resolution paperwork.Details
SRS-EV-05Pre-war switchboard upgradesFederation and Edwardian semis often carry ceramic fuses or a board with no spare ways. We upgrade to a modern board with RCD protection and a dedicated 32 A circuit before the charger goes in.Details
SRS-EV-06Breweries, studios and workplacesMarrickville's industrial precinct is now breweries, creative studios and small manufacturers. Frequently asked.
A standard 7kW single-phase install in a Marrickville home with a serviceable modern switchboard typically takes 3–4 hours — site assessment, cabling run, mounting, commissioning, and app pairing. For Federation semis where the switchboard needs upgrading first, allow a full half-day: board work adds 2–3 hours depending on the existing setup. Warehouse conversion installs with sub-metering are scoped individually and generally require a separate sub-metering commissioning step — we confirm timing at the quote stage for those jobs.
Marrickville is in the AUSGRID distribution network — not the Endeavour Energy territory that covers Western Sydney. For a standard 7kW single-phase residential install, your licensed electrician manages compliance under their NSW electrical licence — no separate application to AUSGRID is needed. For 22kW three-phase installs, a connection application to AUSGRID must be lodged and approved before the new circuit is energised. We prepare and submit that application as part of the job. For work at the service line or connection point, our electricians hold the relevant ASP accreditation for the AUSGRID territory.
It depends on your property. For Federation and Edwardian semis: the critical question is whether you have usable off-street access — a side driveway, rear lane access, or a converted carriage house. Many Inner West terraces and semis have no off-street parking, and for those properties a home Level 2 charger is not a practical solution. We will tell you that clearly rather than oversell. For properties that do have driveway or garage access, heritage-era switchboards are the next consideration — most pre-1990 single-phase boards in Marrickville need assessing before a 32A EV circuit can be added safely. We do both the assessment and any required upgrade in a single visit. For warehouse conversion apartments: the strata sub-board, individual lot sub-metering, and owners corporation approval are the three factors to resolve. Under NSW strata law an EV charger request is a sustainability infrastructure resolution (Strata Schemes Management Act 2015, s132B): it passes unless more than 50% of the votes cast are against it, a lower bar than the special resolution most upgrades need. Since 1 July 2025 a by-law also cannot block a charger on appearance grounds alone. We advise on the process at the quote stage.
If your Federation semi or terrace has no driveway or private off-street access, a home Level 2 charger cannot be installed — the charger must be located on your property, adjacent to a parking space you control. Inner West Council is rolling out more than 200 public charging plugs across about 120 sites in the LGA (Transport for NSW, December 2025) to serve this group of residents. Those chargers are suitable for top-up charging but are not a direct substitute for the convenience of overnight home charging. If your situation changes — a rear lane opened, a carport added, or you move to a property with off-street access — a home install then becomes possible. We are happy to assess any property where access exists, including narrow driveways and shared access arrangements.
A standard 7kW residential install from $699 covers: site assessment, RCD, weatherproof enclosure, up to 15 metres of cabling from your meter box to the installation point, commissioning, app pairing, and a certificate of electrical compliance. No travel fee within the Marrickville and Inner West area. Runs longer than 15 metres — which can occur in warehouse buildings or properties with rear-of-block parking — are quoted separately before any work starts. Switchboard upgrades are priced separately if the assessment requires one, and sub-metering for strata installs is quoted as an additional scope item. Nothing is added to the invoice without your approval.
For single-phase 7kW installs, the Evnex E2 Plus, Zappi, and Tesla Wall Connector all use a standard Type 2 connector and work with virtually every EV sold in Australia — including the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, BYD Atto 3, Kia EV6, Polestar 2, and most common Inner West household vehicles. A 7kW charger adds approximately 40km of range per hour and will fully charge most 60–80 kWh batteries overnight. Marrickville’s EV ownership profile skews toward younger families and creative-industry professionals — the Kia EV6, Polestar 2, and BYD are all common in the 2204 postcode. If your car has a higher-rated onboard charger and you want faster turnaround, ask about 22kW three-phase at the quote stage. We confirm the right charger for your vehicle and property during the site visit.
Yes, and it is one of the more straightforward jobs here. The charger usually mounts on the side wall or at the rear, with cable run along the boundary from the meter box. The one thing we check first is the switchboard: many pre-war semis need a board upgrade to take a dedicated 32 A circuit, and we price that separately so you can see it.
You do, via a sub-meter on your circuit, which is the standard way owners corporations agree to a private charger. We size the circuit against the sub-board's spare capacity and, where several owners want chargers, set up load management so the shared supply is never overloaded. That scope goes into the sustainability infrastructure resolution your strata manager tables.

Nearby suburbs we cover
The Inner West suburbs around Marrickville share the same installers, pricing and CCEW paperwork.
Dulwich Hill
Dulwich Hill has federation houses alongside a growing number of apartment buildings near the light rail. Houses usually have a driveway or side access rather than a garage, so a weatherproof wall unit is the common fit. Apartment owners go through strata, and we provide the technical documentation the committee needs.
Petersham
Petersham is largely terraces and semis, many with rear lane access and a small garage or parking pad at the back. We run the cable from the switchboard to the rear and mount the charger where the car actually sits. Older boards are checked and upgraded where necessary.
Newtown
Newtown terraces rarely have off-street parking, so most installs are for the homes that do have a rear garage off a lane, or for small apartment blocks. Runs are often long and route through tight spaces. We plan the route on a site visit and keep the finish tidy.
Sydenham
Sydenham combines warehouse conversions and small workers cottages. Converted commercial buildings often have three-phase supply, which makes a 22kW charger possible. Cottages are usually single-phase with a carport, suiting a 7kW unit. We check the board and supply on site before quoting.
Tempe
Tempe is mostly freestanding homes and semis with a driveway or carport, plus some newer apartment blocks along the Princes Highway. Most house installs are a 7kW charger close to the switchboard. Strata installs are handled with the committee, including metering back to your lot.
Enmore
Enmore is dense terrace housing with limited off-street parking. Where a home has a rear garage or a parking space off a lane, a charger is usually achievable with a longer run from the front switchboard. We size the cable properly and issue a CCEW on completion.
