How do I know if I need a switchboard upgrade?

Old fuse boxes weren’t designed for today’s appliance loads or modern safety requirements. What's the difference between a fuse box and a modern switchboard?
A fuse box uses rewirable ceramic fuses that overheat or fail. A modern switchboard uses circuit breakers and RCD safety switches that detect faults and disconnect power instantly — safer, faster, and required by AS/NZS 3000.
How long does a switchboard upgrade take?
Most residential switchboard upgrades take four to six hours from power isolation through to testing. Our team ensures everything is tested and power is restored the same day. Emergency upgrades are often faster depending on board condition.
Do I need a Level 2 ASP electrician?
In some cases yes — particularly if the upgrade involves changing the meter connection, the service fuse, or the main supply. SRS Services is Level 2 ASP licensed, so we handle both standard and Level 2 work without bringing in a separate contractor.
Will my new switchboard support solar panels and an EV charger?
